GRAFFF! Festival De Arte Publico. Amabto, Ecuador

November 05th, 2013 | Category: Graffiti / Street Art,Travel

I have to put this blog post together quick! Off to London in a few hours. November is one crazy month ya’ll. This past weekend I had a chance to paint at the 5th annual Public Art Project called “GRAFFF” I was invited by a lovely artist that goes by the name of Vera. I met her at the MTN wall in Quito a few weeks ago. Super sweet! She is one of the main organisers and directors for the project where 15+ international and local artist participate in mixed media art pieces. From murals, to street art, to dance performances. The project is growing, and the walls are getting bigger too. It was a huge task to take on this long long wall, but I gave it my best, and tried something new. Love how it came out! As soon as I get more flicks from event and the rest of the artist walls I will add. Unfortunately because I was squeezed for time I had not chance to take shots of the the rest of the event, and walls:(

CULTURE STRIKE @LIFEISLIVING Festival 10.12.13

Happy to be heading back to California this year. It’s been a minute! This year I will be working with an amazing woman, friend, artist Favianna Rodriguez. We met a few years ago in NY when she was showcasing her prints in El Barrio. I love her work, and the great activism projects she has lead with the Culture Strike group. I am happy to be in full support of her migrations butterfly project which will take place at the Life is Living festival on Saturday October, 12th in Oakland Ca. We will be painting beautiful butterfly pieces for a public street art project about the human right to move. Proud to be part of it and super excited to see everyone! Especially Erin Yoshi, Estria, Glow, Nancy Pilli, Brett Cook Disney, The Few & Far girls, and many more. See you guys soon! ((( Many Thanks )))

Favianna Rodriguez/Culture Strike kicking knowledge about what is happening in this country to undocumented immigrants and the crazy laws being passed that many of our friends and family may soon have to deal with. It is a serious time, and we have to use our art to spread these messages to the public at large. Graff is dope and all but we gotta start using our talent to educate folks and spread powerful messages to our community. Our art can be deeper, powerful, and more meaningful to all. DREAM! MIGRATE! MTN ECUADOR

August 07th, 2013 | Category: Community,Ecuador,Graffiti / Street Art,Travel

This past weekend I took a trip to the post office in the city, and found out that the MTN Ecuador Spray Paint launch was only 3 blocks away! It turns out that MTN will now be sold officially in Ecuador in various paint shops. I made that u-turn to check out what the event was all about, and ended up painting for 5hrs! I had no sketch, no camera, just 12 cans of the last colors that remained provided by MTN. I went for it with the classic TF warrior character steez. Shout out to my ecua hommies who helped lock down a wall for me; Sapin, Belu Loops, Dennis from Mugre Sur, Sudamerica peeps, and Blooky. I’m finally putting all the faces and names together to navigate the scene down here.  It’s taken me a while but little by little I’ll be able to build with everyone to try and organize something DOPE. Till then the “Guerillera de Amor” is on the scene, painting and making friends <3

ARTE.VIDA.CULTURA.

Earlier this year during my trip to Peru I met Alejandro Carranza Vela. A local artisan who travels throughout South America  “parchando” ( setting up shop on the street ) and living a carefree street life. From Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Ecuador, and heading north this year, Alejandro is an amazing soul. I was impressed with his handmade jewelry works on metal, and thread. It’s amazing what one can do with stones, rocks, and beads. There is a whole tribe of friends like Alejandro who travel and set up shop in plazas. They live on the basics, and spend afternoons under the sun making art, music, and friends. I’m enchanted with this whole bohemian hippie life! ((( Inspired ))) Stay tuned for our 2013 jewelry/art collaboration:)

LIMA, PERU 2013 RE-CAP!

March 15th, 2013 | Category: Events,Graffiti / Street Art,Travel

Back from Peru!!! Going through withdrawals. Totally missing it right now;( I truly had a super nice time regardless of the high temperatures which I now officially dislike. Not down with the heat in a busy city anymore. Painting and traveling after so many years starts to teach you a thing or two about how best to conserve your energy and use the time wisely to do all that you love. There is never a sure deal you will return to that city so you have to make it count! I had 12 days to rock 3 collaborative murals, spend quality time with the girls, street stroll, and makee sure I get in on their infamous peruvian ceviche, and pollo a la brasa with to-die-for peruvian sauce. OMG YUM. Food was super good, especially alllllll the maracuya icies for 1 sol I bought every single day on my way to the wall. I couldn’t get enough of those! Overall trip was excellent I got to do it all and much more. Thankful, and in love with the way life is unfolding as I organically flow with the current of life <3

NOSOTRAS ESTAMOS EN LA CALLE, LIMA PERU 2013! CON MUCHA FUERZA!!! Gracias por los pics KREW!

Peru Women

This is the 5th year of the festival, and the wall is bigger and higher than ever. Daunting to look at. Super scary because the equipment and team hired was basic. We had 1 week to complete, but because of the upcoming elections our scaffolds arrived late. Many of the artists had schedules that did no coincide and so the wall will be complete long after we have returned to our countries…

Toofly Lima Peru 2013

Pencils, paper, and ideas flowed organically. It was a smooth process to come up with the design. It was an honor that my sketch was chosen as the lead design for the overall wall, but super scary that my task was to create the face alllllllllll the way at the top. It was unexpected, but I built up the courage to make it happen. I had 3 days to mentally prepare to hang from a 10 story building for dear life just to get this design to happen. I have never been so scared in my life…but I DID IT!

I was super happy when I met Wend and Anis from Chile because we clicked right away. They work together to make their productions big and vibrant. My part of the wall was insane to complete on my own and luckily after checking out their work we decided they should most definitely rock the top part of the dress with their beautiful mandala work instead of the heart. I was so happy and so were they because there was no more room on the rest of the wall to rock their work. It was meant to be! Gotta love when that happens…

It takes a lot of courage to do what we did on this huge building. IT’S ON!

Nosotras Estamos En La Calle 2013 Peru
The mural process continued long after the festival, and will be finished at the end of March with local peruvian artists. Proud of this wall, even though I was unable to make her face look as dope as I would have liked. Working large scale is a whole new thing for me, I have to improve. Officially addicted to painting big, and painting for days and days to create a master piece. The 3-4 hrs pieces I am used is gonna change from now on..-

Nosostras Estamos en La Calle Mural “PACHAMAMA”

In a collaborative effort 20+ women from the 5th annual NOSOTRAS ESTAMOS EN LA CALLE took part in creating a 10 story building mural entitled “PachaMama” in the center of Lima, Peru. To celebrate International Women’s History Month, and growing love for Street Art in Peru. The women invited to participate in this event came from Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, El Salvador, Colombia, Brasil, Mexico, Argentina, and USA. The event brought these women together to create a larger than life piece that would represent WOMAN, NATURE, and IDENTITY. In a mountain like form, the image of a strong indigenous woman stands tall with a colorful poncho and peaceful blue skies. The quilt like pieces that come together like a rainbow illustrate images of; women, mother earth, animals, fertility, harvest, nature, native patterns, as well as planetary energy in mandala forms that come from the sun, moon, and stars. As women from Latin America, and of native ancestors we believe that the PachaMama is working louder than ever through artists and activists across the globe. #dopewomenatwork

CENTRO CULTURAL DE ESPAĂâ€A – FESTIVAL LAUNCH

The festival launch began after a few days at the wall which allowed time for folks to get to know each other and get in the mix of things. The launch was held at El Centro Cultural de España. It’s a beautiful space, and a great location with park where all the performances, market, and workshops would be held. The walls are covered with mural works by the current exhibition. It’s beautiful!!! I would love to have an exhibit, mural, and workshops here one day. Some of the women artists who waited their turn at the big wall en el centro had an opportunity to paint here and enjoy the festivities. I made it late, but got a little Toofly piece in there. Not too crazy about it awaiting a good flick to post…

COMAS – Community Mural Production for Barrio Comas.

Comas Peru 1

Low on paint, and energy didn’t stop us from heading deep into the barrios of Comas to paint a community wall. Every year the festival makes sure that low income communities throughout Lima get to enjoy street art, and celebrate women history month. Little, and young girls were on the scene helping the artists and taking part in the wall. It was hot as hell, and limited supply of paint but we made it happen!

Unsure what kind of transformation I’m going through but my work is changing quite a bit. Still not sure how to grab hold of it. I couldn’t summon up what I’m used to painting back in the states, it just doesn’t come out anymore. Dynamita and I had a brief conversation about it, and it felt right that it is as it should be. I have to give it time to form. I am exactly where I need to be to explore this change. The energy is different in Latin America, and it calls for a different message. It’s going to be a while until I get the knack for this new flow. Anxious! I need good paint, and long hours to continue to develop it…

BEACH DAY AT PUNTA NEGRA

LIMA STREET STROLLZ

When traveling I make sure to make time for my street strolls and dolo thoughts. It’s a great time to take in the flow of the city, it’s people, and it’s environment. It was a lucky time to be in Lima because LatinoAmericano was happening at the same time. A large mural production held every year during March. WOW! I hoep I can get down with it one day. I was super happy that my hommie Pau Quintana Jornet, Chilean from Berlin was painting. Sweetheart making big moves! Happy we are both now traveling throughout South America and painting our hearts out:) Looking forward to chatting it up about an upcoming exhibit in Berlin, and productions in Latin America and the states. Yeah baby!

MIAMI TRIP 2012

December 12th, 2012 | Category: Day in the Life,Hommies,Travel

Soundtrack of my life. FUN IN THE SUN!!! Miami during December rocks. Got a chance to paint, exhibit, and most of all spend time with my loving friends vacay style. We rented a gorgeous vacation home – which I recommend is the best way to do Miami during these trips because you get it all +  it’s cheaper. We stayed in Coconut Grove near Calle 8 and Little Habana where we can get our morning cuban coffee on. Cute area! After I finished painting with the girls our days were spent sipping cranberry drinks at the FlavorPill event, swimming in the pool to some dope music, ciphering, grilling delicious marinated skirt steaks, partying like the crazies that we are, and making home cooked meals to cure our hangovers. It was so much fun!!! We made our rounds during Basel to support our fellow artists and enjoy the creative energy at Wynwood. If your an artist, or lover of the sunshine your ass needs to be here!

ART BASEL 2012

Showing the fellas some luv at POP gallery. Shout out to 2Esae, Ski, and Col. Good seeing you guys!

Finally got a chance to meet Travis!:) Giving a shout out to the FCNY crew!

ABSOLUTELY a must. The FlavorPill FREE LUNCH 3 day event sponsored by Absolute kicked off the afternoon like no other!

Drinks, hot pool, and a beautiful sunny day!

It’s not a party till you dance to some Biggie, even if it’s in the pool!

Shout out to my beautiful sister and her friends who strolled thru to say whadddup! LOVE YOU.

Our last day in Miami and we got it all in! Last chance for pool dips at our vacation home, cipher sessions, southbeach, and Little Habana for some cuban breakfast.

Shout out to our hommie Percy who made the quick troop from Boston for some FUN IN THE SUN!

Sometimes you just gotta jump in…

enjoy the sunshine…

and have fun…

I hate goodbyes. See ya later sounds better no?

Our last dining session at PANORAMA terrace in Coconut Grove. 5 min away from our vacay home. Peruvian cuisine. DELICIOUS. We recommend it highly.

LOVE YOU GUYS!!! Till next time:) Don’t forget the berry wine hahhahahahha

MAMA SAID KNOCK YOU OUT 2! ATX 2012

October 17th, 2012 | Category: Community,Events,Hip Hop Culture,Travel

Mama Said Knock You Out 2! with some of the dopest WOMEN IN HIP HOP artists today. REAL HIP HOP! The event was held at the community space called  THE COLLECTIVE in Austin, Texas, Saturday October 6th. Event was on point. The ladies did their thang. Line up was ill, best performance by women in Hip Hop I have seen in a very long time. So happy I got to experience it. Flava, raw verses, and conscious messages were delivered on stage with passion and heart. Big ups to Invincible, Lah Tere, Las Krudas, Wanda, Tru Bloo, Yoli, Tiger Lily, DJ Trinity, T-Kay, T-Fly, and more WOW! I’m proud of Hip Hop! It’s been a minute. Sharing the creative space as a live artist was awesome. The piece came out beautiful , and it will now have a wonderful home at the Mamas of Color clinic opening up soon for ATX to enjoy. Coming together for a great cause fills our spirit, and this wonderful night could not have been possible without the hard work of the mamas crew. Word up, great job ladies!!!

Tru Bloo poster signings….

DJ Trinity on the 1 & 2’s!

INVINCIBLE – Detroit

Lah Tere – Chicago

Tiger Lily – ATX

LAs Krudas- Cuba

Love you guys!
