Helllllllo Miami!!! I made it back this year to rock a collabo wall with the Few & far graff/street art ladies. It was such a blast to get together again, and rep the ONLY ALL WOMEN WALL at ART BASEL. Super proud of that. It’s been a long time coming since 2003 when the NYC graff ladies got together to rock an all women wall at the Graffiti Hall of Fame. Thanks to Lady Pink “herstory” was made. As I think back to those days, and check out the flicks today, I can say I am proud of how far it’s come. Women everywhere are getting together and creating the environment they want. A cipher that’s at peace with one another, creative, and fun. It’s all I ever wanted, and I’m happy to keep the tradition alive for those loving hearts I meet along the way…

Primary Flight is Miami’s original open air museum and street level mural installation that takes place annually throughout the Wynwood Arts District and the Miami Design District. Primary Flight is arguably the world’s largest event of its kind, having featured over 250 world class artists from around the globe since its inception, the majority of whom travel to Miami during Art Basel. Artists from all walks of contemporary art headline our annual event, collaborating on high profile walls throughout Miami’s urban landscape. Maps outlining the installation are circulated, providing patrons with an opportunity to view the works in progress.

Brrrr it’s officially cold in NY and it’s SNOWING. The seasons are most definitely changing, and at a much quicker pace. Glad I had a chance to finish up this wall before the weather madness! So…I’ve been a fan of Moderno for a long time now, it’s one of my fav spots to eat in Brooklyn. They make a delicious Pollo al Vino in lemon wine sauce that just I can’t live without. Their $3 mojitos are off the hook too, and every now and then it’s the place to be with my hommies. We’ve all become good friends with Wilson, owner, and fellow Ecuadorian who used to make classic ecua grub here. I still ask him “Que paso con la guatita en el menu?” Of course it’s easy to understand that most of his customers these days have no clue what that is. In time the menu had to be switched up for those condo loving trust fund kids who pushed out families that ordered that shit! Sigh…gentrification yes. What’s happened to Williamsburg in the last 10 years is upsetting to many of us, but that’s “New York” for ya! Change is inevitable everywhere and anywhere. So in celebration of this, and with an open heart…”Let there be death & let there be life” – repeat.

The Day of the Dead celebrations in Mexico can be traced back to the indigenous cultures. Rituals celebrating the deaths of ancestors have been observed by these civilizations perhaps for as long as 2,500–3,000 years. In the pre-Hispanic era, the rituals to symbolize death and rebirth have created an array of imagery especially the image of a skull found in various art works, illustrations, graphic designs, and handmade crafts.

Just finished rocking one of my favorite pieces I’ve done this year for the upcoming ROOFTOP LEGENDS event being held next Saturday in the lower east side. I’m really happy with the way it came out, especially since I totally freestyled it from beginning to end. With no sketch in hand, and a bunch of scrap paint left over from my gigs I dove right into this talllllllllll wall triple my size! Painting something so big takes a lot more time out of my crazy schedule, but luckily the practice over the years has helped improve my speed, and aerosol skills. I’m so proud of how far I’ve come with my work, my beauties, my messages. The transformation feels amazing. I have a huge year of change approaching and the love warrior spirit is on my side…

Pantheon Projects’ first public event will be as an exhibitor at Printed Matter, Inc.’s, The NY Art Book Fair, in its inaugural “zine section.” According to its Chair of the Board, Philip Aarons, “…This year’s focus on artists’ photography books, and the addition of more than 60 zinesters in an outdoor tent, will make this year’s edition of the fair the best so far.” Pantheon Projects will be carrying the Feral Diagram poster on Graffiti and Street Art, the 426-page exhibition catalog, its first graff zine issue titled, “Signal” and its first collaborator featured zine, “Learning to Die, Live the Dream II” by Adam VOID and DROID 907. Pantheon Projects’ book signing will feature Charlie Ahearn, Director of Wild Style; Chris Pape aka Freedom, early graffiti writer and historian; KET1 RIS, original graffiti revolutionary; and Toofly, graffiti artist and co-founder of the Younity Crew.

FREEDOM aka CHRIS PAPE, graffiti writer, painter and historian.
One of the earliest graffiti writers in the early seventies who went on
to paint the trains and eventually the tunnels themselves. He has become infamous for starting what came to be known as The Freedom Tunnels, recently covered in an article in The New York Times.

CHARLIE AHEARN, filmmaker.
Director of WILDSTYLE, the classic graffiti film from the early
eighties. He utilized actual graffiti writers as actors and shot it
guerrila style on the streets and in the subway tunnels. It features
Lee, Lady Pink, Dondi, Zephyr, and many more.

ALAN KET, graffiti writer
KET was one of the last great subway artists and vandals at the end of the eighties. A true revolutionary of the movement, he and his crew RIS kept the art alive on the subways despite the city’s new laws and The Buff.

TOOFLY, graffiti artist.
Toofly is a master aerosol painter and powerful community leader. She started the all-female crew called Younity, which is now comprised of over 100 of the strongest graffiti and street artists currently making art on the global stage.

This exhibition focuses more specifically on local graffiti writers and their newer “canvases,” focusing on artists of various generations and their contemporary contributions to street aesthetics. Their art explores the re-use of objects including street signs, cardboard, objects caught in the ocean, and plastic bags. An ephemeral installation extends the exhibition into a park in Northern Manhattan. Artists; Dister/Dister Rondon, Feegz / Carlos Jesús Martinez Dominguez, Edwin González-Ojeda, J. The Afro-Punk Festival will be returning to Brooklyn’s Commodore Barry Park for it’s seventh year on August 27th-28th. This year however, the festival will be free thanks to sponsorship—including Nike, Beats By Dre, Boost Mobile, Harley Davidson, and Sesac. In addition to already announced artists including Cee-Lo Green and Santigold, the line up will include artists such as Gym Class Heroes, Das Racist and many others.
