ART FOR TIBET is an annual charity auction that showcases work from a diverse international pool of established and emerging artists, including a growing number of outstanding contemporary Tibetan artists. For many Tibetan artists this show is a rare and vital opportunity to express their artistic voices and exhibit their work without risk of imprisonment.

In 2011, ART FOR TIBET expanded to include events in New York City and Toronto (London Calling in 2012!). If you don’t live near one of these cities, you can still support Tibet by placing bids in our online auction.

Art plays a vital role in Tibetan culture, and has long been a profound tool for social and political change. In a more immediate sense, this auction raises critical funds for Students for a Free Tibet (SFT): a nonprofit global grassroots network that campaigns for Tibetans’ fundamental rights to freedom and human rights and trains young Tibetan and non-Tibetan youth worldwide in strategic nonviolent action.

Visit www.studentsforafreetibet.org to learn more.

We are grateful to the support of our Honorary Committee members Richard Gere, Professor Robert Thurman and Shepard Fairey.

This event is made possible by generous contributions from: Joshua Liner Gallery, Gallery 1313, benefitevents.com, Beerlao, Perry Serpa/Good Cop PR, John Peet / Union Gallery, Makiko Onda, Mio Murakami, DJ Spirit Bear, Lisa Shimamura / Colab Projects Group, Jonathan Hulland, Kurt Langer, Stefanie Rogers and Tenzin Dorjee

This year the Brooklyn Bodega crew aka Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival rocked a visual arts exhibit with some of today’s leading artists in conjunction with Jamel Shabazz’s 10th anniversary of BACK IN THE DAYS held at Power House Books. The theme “Under the Influence” of Hip Hop, Graff, Street, NYC, Culture, Love, and anything that continues to move and inspire us. Sending a big shout out to everyone that came through to support and to Royce and Alex for the invitation to get down. Good job fellas! Exhibit looks dope…

“The idea is to pay tribute to the culture and bring together artists who have something special in common – an influence, a back-story, a motivation. Hip-Hop wouldn’t have become the same movement without the influence of the graffiti writers who created an aesthetic for a new generation. The artists in this show prove that the influence of the golden era keeps its roots and continues to inspire new creations. The influence is powerful and this show brings together both the pioneers and a new wave of artistic progression.”

COMnGRAF 3: Breaking Borders is Art that showcases Hip-Hop culture through the cross-cultural influence between Comic Book Art and Graffiti Art. This exhibition will showcase the collaborative grouping of both sequential and aerosol art by mainstream comic book artists and legendary graffiti artists. Simply stated, it is “the fusion of two cultures” celebrating the influence each has on the other. In 2011, the King Arts Complex is excited to bring COMnGRAF 3 to the audience in Central Ohio.
